I left San Francisco and headed north on Highway 101 and then traveled the parallel “Avenue of the Giants” which has many places to stop and wander through the groves of Redwoods. Unfortunately, pictures just can’t capture their grandeur. Here is the Founders Tree (12 foot diameter):
And here is a shot looking straight up:
This is how the Redwoods make me feel:
Peace be unto you. Man I so wish I was on that trip!
I laughed out loud when I saw that picture of you ‘this is how the red woods make me feel’. hahaha I thought I heard the Steve Miller Band playing in the background…
Hi Jonathan,
Peace to you brother.
A couple days later there was a lot of music in my head – I went to the Oregon Country Fair which had a lot of excellent bands playing rock-and-roll and world beat and just about everything else. I’m remiss in getting it posted because the long drive put a kink in my neck and I find it painful to type. I should get it done today.
All the very best,
Richard
I have always been impressed with the silence in the redwood groves. When the low branches are about 200 feet up, there are few places for “ground noise” to come from.
As a native Californian, the Redwoods had always been my joyful playground. But as I grew in the knowledge of Jesus Christ, my playground became something quite different. I now call this wondrous and singular place on the planet, God’s Cathedral.
It is also where I learned to understand “Be still and know that I am God’.
Blessings to you.
I understand your point very well! My wife Rose and I began having long conversations around our fire pit last winter. Soon we found ourselves discussing the meaning of “Be still and know that I am God” at great length. It became a “fixed point” around which our conversation and shared meditation would turn over a period of months.
Those are great pictures, Richard. The great challenge for you and Rose is to love the author of the holy Bible even more than you love His gifts to you.
Psalm 46:10 doesn’t just involve being in a quite setting, although that is a marvellous advantage for serious searchers for truth.
God is righteous. Knowing Him will involve hungering and thirsting after righteousness. The best way to do this is to hunger and thirst for an intimate relationship with God’s sinless Son.
Richard, I recommend that you and Rose study the first four books of the New Testament together. Put aside all the objections you have from studying the Old Testament and start anew with a fervent desire to learn from Your Creator. Be encouraged for He can teach you that His flawless Word is the truth!
