    In the last days

How should we understand the phrase; in the last days?

This thread has been started due to a comment I read from Richard's post in another thread.

Remember to take the context of Acts 3:24 from the verses before it.

Does the phrase "the last days" when used in the writings of all the prophets relate to one specific period culminating in AD68/70, or to other periods of time immediately before the events they are talking about happen?

Searching for the exact same phrase in my PC Bible, only seven occurrences are found. 3 times in the Old Testament, and 4 times in the New Testament. This means that the phrase has been translated from both Hebrew and Greek texts.

The context of each occurrence of the phrase might gives us our answers.

Seeing as I have found only 7 verses, here they are for convenience:

    Genesis 49:1
And Jacob called unto his sons, and said, Gather yourselves together, that I may tell you that which shall befall you in the last days.

    Isaiah 2:2
And it shall come to pass in the last days, that the mountain of the Lord's house shall be established in the top of the mountains, and shall be exalted above the hills; and all nations shall flow unto it.

    Micah 4:1
But in the last days it shall come to pass, that the mountain of the house of the LORD shall be established in the top of the mountains, and it shall be exalted above the hills; and people shall flow unto it.

Acts 2:17 (quoting Joel though not in the list)
And it shall come to pass in the last days, saith God, I will pour out of my Spirit upon all flesh: and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams:

    2 Tim 3:1
This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come.

    James 5:3
Your gold and silver is cankered; and the rust of them shall be a witness against you, and shall eat your flesh as it were fire. Ye have heaped treasure together for the last days.

    2 Peter 3:3
Knowing this first, that there shall come in the last days scoffers, walking after their own lusts,

    Now for your conclusions.
