Greek philosophers believed that the universe is a given

    https://twitter.com/RabbiGinsburgh

Chanukah is the time to refine the Greek philosophy and culture that still form the basis of Western science and culture to this day.

The Biblical word for “Greece” (יָוָן) also means “swamp” as in the phrase, “I have drowned in the swampy depths.”

The words “drown” (טָבַע) and “nature” (טֶבַע) use the very same letters; the Greek philosophy of nature “drowns” us in a “swampy pond.”

The problem with Greek philosophy is that it only deals with what the eye can perceive, but cannot fathom the Divine “nothingness.”

Greek philosophers believed that the universe is a given, but creation ex-nihilo is a basic Jewish precept.

    Is he right?

    What is your take?

Chanukah and Christmas have certain things in common.

    Both are light-festivals.

Also Christmas has eight days, the 8th being the first day of the new year, the first of January, the day of Jesus' circumcision.

Might Christmas be the feast of the final victory over Greek philosophy?

Christmas in essence being the feast of the second coming of Christ, menttioned in Hebrews 9:28?

    Groundhog Day..

New Birth! If she has a son, she'll be unclean for a week; then after he's circumcized count 33 days to fulfill her purification. Lev12.

Or, figure a week from Christmas is New Years; then 33 days takes us to 2nd day of February: GROUNDHOG DAY! when the shadow tells us what's to come. Right?

Are we really interested in being purified to enter heaven?

Looking forward to it! Name of gopher should be Hezekiah, IMO, because he saw the shadow of the changing time (as we do..) - that, plus the obvious connection to Leviticus 12. Hezekiah's 15 years seems a pivotal point in his narrative.. you think?

You're in good company. James Joyce, the Prince of Punsters, was born in Dublin on the second day of the second month. He was clearly fated to spend his life "dublin his mumper all the time". Here's the first page of his masterpiece, Finegans Wake. It is filled to the brim with puns on Biblical references. It starts in the middle of the sentence that ends the book. His intent was to make a "circular" book.
