Scarborough Fair ~ A Magnificent Musical Meditation

I prefer "Bridge over Troubled Waters" rather than Scarborough Fair, it is much more meaningful. Meditate on the lyrics....who is that Bridge over Troubled Waters? Jesus of course! Another good song by Simon and Garfunkel is "The Sound of Silence"...who or what is that Sound?

    Bridge over Troubled Waters
    When you're weary
    Feeling small
When tears are in your eyes
    I will dry them all

    I'm on your side
    When times get rough
And friends just can't be found
Like a bridge over troubled water
    I will lay me down
Like a bridge over troubled water
    I will lay me down

    When you're down and out
    When you're on the street
    When evening falls so hard
    I will comfort you

    I'll take your part
    When darkness comes
    And pain is all around
Like a bridge over troubled water
    I will lay me down
Like a bridge over troubled water
    I will lay me down

    Sail on Silver Girl,
    Sail on by
Your time has come to shine
All your dreams are on their way

    See how they shine
    If you need a friend
    I'm sailing right behind
Like a bridge over troubled water
    I will ease your mind
Like a bridge over troubled water
    I will ease your mind

    The Sound of Silence
    Hello darkness, my old friend
I've come to talk with you again
    Because a vision softly creeping
Left its seeds while I was sleeping
And the vision that was planted in my brain
    Still remains
    Within the sound of silence

In restless dreams I walked alone
    Narrow streets of cobblestone
'Neath the halo of a street lamp
I turned my collar to the cold and damp
When my eyes were stabbed by the flash of a neon light
    That split the night
And touched the sound of silence

And in the naked light I saw
    Ten thousand people, maybe more
    People talking without speaking
    People hearing without listening
People writing songs that voices never share
    And no one dared
    Disturb the sound of silence

"Fools", said I, "You do not know
    Silence like a cancer grows
Hear my words that I might teach you
Take my arms that I might reach you"
But my words, like silent raindrops fell
    And echoed
    In the wells of silence

And the people bowed and prayed
To the neon god they made
And the sign flashed out its warning
In the words that it was forming
And the sign said, "The words of the prophets are written on the subway walls
    And tenement halls"
And whispered in the sounds of silence

May God inspired us through His songs.
    Ask and You shall receive,
    Seek and You shall find,
Knock and the door will be open unto You.

Those are absolutely wonderful songs - two of my favorites. I agree their lyrics are superior to Scarborough Fair, but the musical quality (tones, harmonies and such) of Scarborough Fair is exceedingly rich. Of course I was listening in an altered state of consciousness where the music was represented as luminous multidimensional fractal maple leaves of gold and green interlocking with each other in accordance with the rhythm and the full spectrum of harmonics - including an infinite fine-structure that was generated by my mind on top of the limited frequencies being input into my physical ears - so perhaps I would find equal beauty in those other songs if I listened to them in such a state of mind.

    Art Garfunkel

Art Garfunkel did an album of his own.... likely several of them. The one I have and like is "Watermark" . Some of the songs are not original to him, but he likely adds his own twist and harmonics to them.
1Thess 4:8 He therefore that despiseth, despiseth not man, but God, who hath also given unto us his holy Spirit.
