Just as Saul fought the Philistines and defeated them many times in the 9th book 1Samuel but was defeated at the loss of his life at the end of the book, Nikephoros I the Byzantine Emperor went through the same fate. Saul's head was cut off and sent to the house of Dagon as a prize of victory. So was Nikephoros I's head cut off and the skull was used as a cup for the wine which Krum the king of Bulgaria used.

Also Basil I was from, supposedly humble origins. He fought a Bulgarian champion in a wrestling match and won. The emperor Michael III liked his ability and took him in his court. David had fought Goliath the champion in 1Samuel 17 and won. King Saul, a result took him in his court:
