View Full Version : David's Sisters

Most everyone knows about David's six (or 7) brothers, but his two sisters are mentioned only briefly in 1Chronicles 2:16. We read about his wedding to Abigail w/o realizing how he had both a wife and a sister named Abigail,
and how that may be a type of how Mary has both a husband and a father named Joseph. :huhsign:

1Sam16:10 Again, Jesse made seven of his sons to pass before Samuel. And Samuel said unto Jesse, The LORD hath not chosen these.

1Chr2:12 And Boaz begat Obed, and Obed begat Jesse, 2:13 And Jesse begat his firstborn Eliab, and Abinadab the second, and Shimma the third, 2:14 Nethaneel the fourth, Raddai the fifth, 2:15 Ozem the sixth, David the seventh:

2:16 Whose sisters were Zeruiah, and Abigail. And the sons of Zeruiah; Abishai, and Joab, and Asahel, three.

Abigail and Zeruiah (A-Z) reminds me of the wives of Lamech: Adah & Zillah (A-Z), Gen4:19,
and arouses my suspicion how English might figure here. You think?

I wonder if David got along very well with his sister Zeruiah, since every time her sons caused David problems, he referred to them as the "sons of Zeruiah" (their mother). I don't recall offhand any other instances where sons were referred to according to their mother's name. 1 Chronicles 2 seems to have a lot of references to who was the mother of whom, and which wife it was who bore so-and-so.

Interesting perspective, Silence -- :yo: and since Abigail is not only 'sister', but also a daughter of Nahash, 2Sam17:25, do you take that to mean Jesse had more than one wife, or do you see something further?

Another instance, SILENCE, is Jude 14 where Enoch is I.D. as 7th from Adam,
rather than as "Son of Jared". Fits with the "perfect" generation of Noah#10..

Probably more, but can't think of any just now.. :typing:
