:sCh_christian: Christian ties to Groundhog Day...
Most Americans don't even know what day it happens on -- that day when the groundhog looks for his shadow to tell us whether we'll have another 6 weeks of winter.

The 2nd day of February is the 33rd day of the year, which was preceded by the last 7 days of December, beginning on the 25th (Christmas Day).

Forty (40) days total, and matching the time prescribed in Leviticus 12:4 for the purification of the woman after she birthed a boy. (Its twice this, for a girl.) Despite the change in calendars and dispute about the day Jesus was born, the seven (7) and the thirty-three (33) from Christmas to Groundhog Day line up with the Leviticus text in a poignant and mysterious way.

Lev12:2 Speak unto the children of Israel, saying, If a woman have conceived seed, and born a man child: then she shall be unclean seven days; according to the days of the separation for her infirmity shall she be unclean. 12:3 And in the eighth day the flesh of his foreskin shall be circumcised. [New Years Day by our calendar!]

12:4 And she shall then continue in the blood of her purifying three and thirty days; she shall touch no hallowed thing, nor come into the sanctuary, until the days of her purifying be fulfilled.

Are we looking forward to 'Getting Into the Sanctuary?'

The allegory here is saying that the boy that was birthed was Jesus, and the woman (Bride of Christ) is the Church that is going through this purification process before going to Heaven!

The number combination7+33 is also connected with King David. Four (4) times it's recorded how David reigned seven years in Hebron, and thirty-three in Jerusalem! :yo:

Leviticus 12:6,

And when the days of her purification have been completed, whether for a son or for a daughter, she shall bring a sheep in its first year as a burnt offering, and a young dove or a turtle dove as a sin offering, to the entrance of the Tent of Meeting, to the kohen.

a sheep, Hebrew כֶּבֶשׂ , "keves".
a sheep in its first year = כֶּבֶשׂ בֶּן שְׁנָתוֹ , "keves ben sh'nato"

LXX has here ἀμνὸς , "amnos"

Same as what John uses in John 1:29,
Ἴδε ὁ ἀμνὸς τοῦ θεοῦ ὁ αἴρων τὴν ἁμαρτίαν τοῦ κόσμου.
See the lamb of God who carries the sin of the world.

I bet John had Hebrew "keves"in mind, even as a wordplay with "kevesh"(footstool) /"kavash" (to tread under foot, conquer, suppress, subdue, rape )

"kavash ishah"= to rape a woman.

= "sin of the world"

cf. Rashi on Genesis 1:28,

and subdue it: The“vav” [in וְכִבְשֻׁהָ is missing, [allowing the word to be read וְכִבְשָׁה, the masculine singular imperative] to teach you that the male subdues the female that she should not be a gadabout (Gen. Rabbah 8:12), and it is also meant to teach you that the man, whose way it is to subdue, is commanded to propagate, but not the woman (Yev. Yev. 65b).

"kevesh" can also mean: secret, mystery.

2 minute warning -- it's that time of year again. Are you purified for entrance to heaven? 2/2/2014 coming up, also called GROUNDHOG DAY, at least in some parts of Pennsylvania.. :thumb:

Happy Birthday sylvius! You were one of the first members on this forum back in 2007. That makes you seven years old in "forum years".

Happy BD. Sylvie, Will you be Satisfied (Ps91:15) with just one more day? In Punxsutawney, PA, the groundhog will be looking for his shadow--maybe like Hezekiah looked for the shadow on the sun-dial. Or, the "shadow of Peter", Acts 5:15, to cheer you on your way!

:bcake: As the Queen said: "Let 'em eat Cake!"
