When they were serving their forty years as a result of the bad-report after searching the promised land for forty days, the Israeli's received "double bread" on the 6th day -- so they wouldn't have to work and gather it on the 7th day.
They had a lot of bread in their history -- the brothers had traveled down into Egypt with their '"corn money' in their 'sacks' because of the famine, and "Joseph gathered corn as the sand of the sea", Gen41:49, so I think of that period as the "CORNBREAD" period.
That wasn't the 'double-bread' though--it may have been maize or barley or another grain, but it wasn't the double-bread.
The bread in the wilderness was called Manna -- it came down everyday and they had to gather it daily or it would melt away like ice-cubes. They could bake it or fry it, and was said to taste like wafers with wild honey.
Manna means "what is it? and I think of it as "Wonder Bread" because they wondered where it came from and what it meant. They were being led by the two pillars and WONDERED where they were leading and when they'd get to go.
This was the OT Bread that came down twice on the 6th Day so they could Rest on the 7th Day. Amen?
