Quph Alphabetic Verses

A Cry Unto God

• AV Ps 119.145 I cried with my whole heart; hear me, O LORD: I will keep thy statutes.
• AV Ps 119.146 I cried unto thee; save me, and I shall keep thy testimonies.
• AV Lam 1.19 I called for my lovers, but they deceived me: my priests and mine elders gave up the ghost in the city, while they sought their meat to relieve their souls.
• AV Lam 3.55 I called upon thy name, O LORD, out of the low dungeon.

God used the fundamental Quph KeyWord קרא (Qera, S# H7121) four times in the Quph Alphabetic Verses, translated twice as "cried" and twice as "called." This root is extremely gutteral - it reaches to the back of the throat and is found in all languages. It is familiar in the English word "cry" and the name of the cawing crow. It defines the essence of the nineteenth book, the Book of Psalms, as discussed in A Cry unto God.

The Cry of My Voice

• AV Lam 3:55 Thou hast heard my voice: hide not thine ear at my breathing, at my cry.
• AV Ps 119:149 Hear my voice according unto thy lovingkindness: O LORD, quicken me according to thy judgment.

This Quph KeyWord - קול (Qol, S# H6963) - manifests essential the same theme as Qera above.

Come Near, Oh Lord!

• AV Lam 3:57 Thou drewest near in the day that I called upon thee: thou saidst, Fear not.
• AV Ps 145:18 The LORD is nigh unto all them that call upon him, to all that call upon him in truth.

God used this Quph KeyWord קרב (Qerev, S# H7130) in conjuction with the primary KeyWord Qera (Cry) in these two Alphabetic Verses. He also used it to open Isaiah 19, and in these other three alphabetic verses:

• AV Ps 34:18 The LORD is nigh unto them that are of a broken heart; and saveth such as be of a contrite spirit.
• AV Ps 119.151 They draw nigh that follow after mischief: they are far from thy law.
• AV Ps 119.151 Thou art near, O LORD; and all thy commandments are truth.

God also used this word four times in Isaiah 19 - more than anywhere else in that great book. Note again that God connects the KeyWords Qera (Call) and Qerev (Near). There is a great teaching here - God is near unto all that call upon Him, precisely as stated! This is the promise of God.

Holiness

• AV Ps 111.9 He sent redemption unto his people: he hath commanded his covenant for ever: holy and reverend is his name.

Psalm 111 has two letters per verse. That is why the Quph KeyWord is found halfway through the verse. The KeyWord is קדוש (Qedosh, S# H6918). All who call upon the Lord and draw near to Him in truth will be sanctiffied by His Spirit and made Holy. Qedosh is one of the most important amongst the traditional Jewish understandings of Quph. It manifests in the History of the World with the Holiness Movement of the Nineteenth Century.

Swift (Qal)

• AV Lam 4.19 Our persecutors are swifter than the eagles of the heaven: they pursued us upon the mountains, they laid wait for us in the wilderness.

This Quph KeyWord manifsts in the character of Mark's Gospel, known as the Gospel of Action. God also used this KeyWord to open Isaiah 19. It is very similar to Qol (Voice) discussed above), lacking only the Vav between the Quph and Lamed. I think this is probably because the nature of the Voice. Speaking is one of the lightest and swiftest things we do as humans.

Before, Of Old, Ancient

• AV Psalm 119:152 Concerning thy testimonies, I have known of old that thou hast founded them for ever.

The word translated as "of old" is קדם (Qedem, S# H6924). At times, this word is used to indicate an origin in the timeless past, as in Proverbs 8.22f where it is used twice to speak of God's Wisdom:

The LORD possessed me in the beginning of his way, before his works of old. I was set up from everlasting, from the beginning, or ever the earth was.

God used this word in Isaiah 19. He also used its verbal cognate Qadam (S# H6923) in two other alphabetic verses:

• AV Psalm 119.147 I prevented the dawning of the morning, and cried: I hoped in thy word.
• AV Psalm 119.148 Mine eyes prevent the night watches, that I might meditate in thy word.

In both these cases, the old English can be hard to understand. Prevent used to mean to go before. The NASB translates these verses as follows:

I rise before dawn and cry for help; I wait for Thy words. [Ps 119.147]

My eyes anticipate the night watches, That I may meditate on Thy word. [Ps 119.148]

Arise

AV Proverbs 31.28 Her children arise up, and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praiseth her.

This fundamental Qup KeyWord is קום (Qum, S# H6965). It is found transliterated in on and only one book of the New Testament - the Gospel of Mark on Spoke 19.
