    Upgrade to vBulletin 4.1.12 complete

If you feel a need to be geeky, you can read about the performance improvements, bug fixes, and new features on their site.

Please let me know if there are any new bugs or whatnot.

    Enjoy!

Geek I may be, but the link you have supplied does not work (for me). It does not work for me here or in your other post where you have included this link. I keep getting an Whoops!! Error message. Page not found.

I am interested to find out if the bug fixes have anything to with IE and FF are operating differently on my PC when on this forum. Is this link not working symptomatic of the problem I am already experiencing with my browser/PC combination?

Ah ... an extra http:// somehow snuck its way in front of the url. I fixed it. This is the correct one.

There are differences between how vBullettin works on IE and FF, though I don't have a list off the top of my head. I do know that the spell checker is built in with FF and works while you type, whereas you have to down load an addin for IE and must use it manually. In general, my experience with FF is much better.

    What symptoms are you experiencing?

For now the main problem is with FF not downloading attachments, but that might be a combination of the computer I am using. I never noticed the spell checker function built into FF. I might give it another try. I am using the add-on spell checker I recently installed on IE and that is OK when I remember to use it.

One of the main bug-bears with HTML programs like this forum software in my browser and when using Word 2007, I find glide pad and keys sensitive and fast to respond. This results in whole sentences and paragraphs selected when copying. Before I know it, I have deleted a whole sentence of two where I only meant to delete a couple of words.

I will read the file now I have the correct link. I can't say I have noticed any changes so far. Nevertheless, for this type of forum, I think this is a very good software and platform. I hope you keep the site well backed up. I have experienced a crashed forum I set up and was unable to restore it from what had been saved. Now I save the whole site on the server instead of relying on backups of the database made with the forum software. Maybe this forum software is better for backing up.

    Regards

Yes, I keep it backed up. I export the database to my local machine and restore it to my local database to ensure everything worked. The database is now at about 300MB. It contains nearly five years of discourse, and a wonderful record of my transformation from a rather fundamentalist Christian to free thinker, and all the responses that has evoked in other folks. So don't worry, I'm doing everything I can to ensure that the site will remain. This is really important since you are putting in a lot of effort to express yourself. I was talking on Hanity's forum back in 2003 and had written hundreds of big posts. Then one day BOOM! They changed the forum software and everybody's posts disappeared forever into the vacuum of cyberspace. There were a lot of angry people, myself amongst them. They could have transferred the posts to their new forum software, but they just didn't bother. Very uncool. I quit that forum and started my own.

I haven't heard of any problems with downloading attachments in FF. What exactly are the symptoms? Are you using the latest version? How old is your computer?

I had to adjust the sensitivity of my touch pad on my laptop because of problems like yours. More than once the mouse pointer wandered over the close button, and my browser disappeared while I was writing! Arrrrggg! But the new vBulletin 4.x series introduced an "autosave" feature that saves what you are typing every sixty seconds so this wouldn't be a problem anymore. It saved me the other day when I had a blue screen while writing a long post.

Are you familiar with <control>-z? It undoes accidental edits like the deletion of a whole sentence. Very handy.
