I noticed:
The word "increased" is from the root pic (rabab, Strongs #7231) whence we get Rabbi.
Maybe there's a reason why Nicodemus the Rabbi is mentioned in John 3?
Actually, it was Christ who was called Rabbi by Nicodemus in John 3:
John 3:1 There was a man of the Pharisees, named Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews: 2 The same came to Jesus by night, and said unto him, Rabbi, we know that thou art a teacher come from God: for no man can do these miracles that thou doest, except God be with him.
And of course there is a strong connection with the Holy Spirit (Third Person) in John 3:John 3:5 Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God.
This is the primary connection it would seem to me. The appearance of "rabbi" in this context may have some significance but it's hard to tell.
