Rose, it's simple. You answered part of it.

Rose, suffering is not alleviated by giving us bigger and better brains (more knowledge). Suffering is alleviated by receiving a new heart from God where we begin to walk as Jesus walked. The Suffering in this world is not for lack of brains but because of sin, (pride, greed, lust for power, hatred, envy, jealousy, rebellion, etc).
I know people will say that 'God' put those ideas in the minds of men, but if that is the case then why didn’t he also create those things in the same manner he created the earth, or the first animals? Also a lot of unnecessary suffering could have been avoided if the human knowledge that took thousands of years to acquire, could have been instinctively implanted in our brains from the beginning.
It will always be that way Rose. Man is evolving technologically to great heights, but his heart has never changed. Still full of pride and greed and the only thing that can change a man's innate love for sin, Jesus Christ.
God gave men intelligence and the creative spark (made in God's image). So man thinks and dreams and creates, but only artificial things. God is not interested in artificial things, He is interested in that which is eternal.
"And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth for ever" (1Jn 2:17)
best to you,
P.S. A lot of human suffering could have been avoided if man did not rebel and continue to rebel against God.
There is no other book like the Bible in the world where you have to know the Author to understand the book. If Christianity were the religion of the Book then it would be no different than any other religion in the world. But, Christianity is Christ! It is the dynamic, personal Spirit of God functioning in man.
