Isaiah 44 - Acts
Thus saith the LORD that made thee, and formed thee from the womb,
which will help thee; Fear not, O Jacob, my servant; and thou, Jesurun, whom I
have chosen. For I will pour water upon him that is thirsty, and floods upon the dry
ground: I will pour my spirit upon thy seed, and my blessing upon thine offspring:
Isaiah 44.2f
The outpouring of God's Spirit on the day of of Pentecost is recorded in Book 44,
Acts. We read (Acts 2.1f):
And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord
in one place. And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind,
and it filled all the house where they were sitting. And there appeared unto them
cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them. And they were all filled
with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.
Later in Acts 2 Peter explains this event as the fulfillment of Joel's prophecy (Acts 2.16f):
But Peter, standing up with the eleven, lifted up his voice, and said unto them,
Ye men of Judaea, and all ye that dwell at Jerusalem, be this known unto you, and hearken
to my words: For these are not drunken, as ye suppose, seeing it is but the third hour
of the day. But this is that which was spoken by the prophet Joel; And it shall come
to pass in the last days, saith God, I will pour out of my Spirit upon all flesh:
and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions,
and your old men shall dream dreams: And on my servants and on my handmaidens
I will pour out in those days of my Spirit; and they shall prophesy:
We have a strong thematic link between Isaiah 44 and Acts. It is not a KeyLink because the

Immediatately after this great promise, Isaiah turns to mock the shear madness of idolatry,
and ends with one of the great proclamations of God's sovereignty:
Thus saith the LORD, thy redeemer, and he that formed thee from the womb,
I am the LORD that maketh all things; that stretcheth forth the heavens alone; that spreadeth
abroad the earth by myself; That frustrateth the tokens of the liars, and maketh diviners
mad; that turneth wise men backward, and maketh their knowledge foolish; That confirmeth the
word of his servant, and performeth the counsel of his messengers;

And it came to pass, as we went to prayer, a certain damsel possessed with a
spirit of divination met us, which brought her masters much gain by soothsaying: The
same followed Paul and us, and cried, saying, These men are the servants of the most
high God, which shew unto us the way of salvation. And this did she many days.
But Paul, being grieved, turned and said to the spirit, I command thee in the
name of Jesus Christ to come out of her. And he came out the same hour. And when her masters
saw that the hope of their gains was gone, they caught Paul and Silas, and drew them
into the marketplace unto the rulers,
Here we see the proclamation of God's omnipotence, the frustration of diviners, and the
confirmation of God's messengers both in Isaiah 44 and the Book of Acts! We have another
