Spoke 22
Genesis 22 - The Genesis of Worship
And Abraham said unto his young men, Abide ye here with the ass; and I and the
lad will go yonder and worship, and come again to you. And Abraham took
the wood of the burnt offering, and laid it upon Isaac his son; and he took the fire in his hand,
and a knife; and they went both of them together.
Genesis 22 (vss. 5f)
Genesis 22 contains the the first occurrence of the word "worship" in the English Bible. This is
true in all seven English versions used for comparison in this study. But it is not true in the
Hebrew text, where we find the first occurrence of the root
(Shachah) first translated as "worship" in Genesis 22, translated as "bowed down" in Genesis
18. The reason for the difference will be discussed when I get more time, but for now it is
sufficient to note its significance relative to the Bible Wheel which is both obvious and significant.
The debut of the English word "worship" in Genesis 22 integrates with the theme
as it manifests throughout the Bible! Here is the graph of the distribution of "Worship" on the Wheel:

Worship is a fundamental Spoke 22 theme that is deeply integrated with the
Consummation of Creation.
It manifests in Psalm 22,
Psalm 66,
Isaiah 66,
and in Acts and Revelation!
